About Unscripted Self

Hey! I’m Mekayla, Founder of Unscripted Self LLC, a Neurodivergent, trauma surviving, solo parenting, system challenging coach who’s been through the fire and decided not come out as ash, but as something rooted. This work is personal because my life has demanded it.

I didn’t find this work, I built it.

After a lifetime of masking, misdiagnosis and quiet(and not so quiet) collapse. I finally began unmasking my own neurodivergence, and the weight of what I have had to survive. Not just in my nervous system, but in how I had been made to feel: too much, too complicated, too broken for support. The world was never built for people like me to thrive. So… I built what I needed

Loving, Community Rooted, Radically affirming care.

My Work is Backed by Lived & Professional Experience.

Before becoming a coach, I spent over 10 years working in the intellectual and developmental disability field; from direct support and OnCall staffing to state-level roles. I’ve walked beside families, navigated broken systems, and fought for people to be seen as full human beings.

I’ve been the one holding space in crisis, the one writing the reports, the one managing burnout while hiding my own. That work shaped me, but it also lit a fire of anger at the systems that belittled and shamed people for needing help, including myself.

I don’t offer cold, clinical coaching. I offer care rooted in mutual respect, regulation, and recognition.

Motherhood Changed Everything.

Becoming a single mom has shown me strength I didn’t know I had while helping me name boundaries I never knew I needed. I’m learning how to honor my limits and my brilliance at the same time. Loving my child fiercely has deepened my capacity to hold space, be real, and model care that doesn’t cost us everything.

I’ve learned to ask:

What do I actually need?

Where do I end and others begin?

How can I show up for others without abandoning myself?

These are the same questions I hold space for now.

Why I Created Unscripted Self

Because I believe that people like us deserve support that:

Doesn’t pathologize us

Meets us without pressure

Honors our pace, patterns, and processing

Believes we are whole, even when unraveling

Unscripted Self is a space where you get to show up raw, confused, burnt out, brilliant, masked, messy, in-between, and still be worthy of care.

You are not too much. You’re just not meant to do this alone.

Welcome to Unscripted Self. Let’s build something honest together.
